Colonel Todd “ZLOC” Venema is the Deputy Director for the Sensors Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.  He directs the Air Forces’ research into sensors and electronic systems and guides day-to-day operations for over 1,300 personnel.

Col. Venema entered the Air Force in 1990 and has served in a multitude of operational and acquisition assignments.  Col. Venema is a combat-experienced pilot, graduate of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and has earned a PhD studying adaptive optics. Among his major Awards and Decorations, he holds the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with oak leaf cluster, Aerial Achievement medal and James T. McDowell Award for his leading the 2010 top aviation flight test team in testing the hypersonic X-51 Waverider. He is married to the former Rebecca Sue Swanson, and has four kids, Sofia, Peter, Molly and Micah.
